REVENUE COMMITTEE HEARINGS

Wednesday May 17 was the first of two joint hearings by the Senate and House Interim Committees on Revenue. Eight legislators heard testimony from Housing Alliance members and allies, as well as the general public. More than eighty members of Housing Alliance organizations were on hand to lend their support as well as their voices.

Legislators heard loud and clear that there’s a need for dramatic solutions. Speakers eloquently addressed the need for money for housing development, policy tools like inclusionary zoning, policy and funding strategies to protect manufactured home owners from displacement, and policy to alleviate the disruption of condo conversion and ending use restrictions.

GREAT JOB ALL!!!

Now, let’s do it again June 1st in Salem! Plan to come spend the day, and bring some folks with you! We will have lunches available (donations accepted) and have reserved Room 50 in the basement for breaks and briefings.

The hearing will begin sometime between 10:00 and 10:30, and continue after lunch until about 3:00. Written testimony can be submitted – the committee staff asks for 25 copies of anything submitted in writing. From 9:00 to 10:00, the Committees will be hearing the June Revenue Forecast – let’s hope for good news!

RSVP NOW to Amy Fauver at NPF (afauver@tnpf.org). Let us know how many of you there will be and if you want to take the bus/carpool.
